English Reading Teaching Seminar
On 26th and 27th October, teachers Zhang Cheng, Dong Cuiping, Jiang Ping and Ma Huan from the English group of the Primary Department, taught four experimental courses on English reading teaching. Principal Huang Zuning with the Primary Department, teacher Zhu Hua of Beijing Hongcheng Education Group and all the teachers of the English group participated in the seminar.
To be concrete, the English reading instruction experiment seminar was held in the third and fourth grades respectively and the same class of heterogeneous methods was adopted. Both Zhang Cheng and Dong Cuiping’s seminar topics are 'Pineapple Pancakes'. Firstly, teacher Zhang Cheng introduced the subject of this lesson through humorous questions and combined PPT courseware with classroom games to help students master the words they have learned and help them overcome reading difficulties and read English texts smoothly through section reading. Secondly, teacher Dong Cuiping's teaching design focused on the guidance of courseware to students, helping them understand the meaning of words through pictures and exercises and clearing the obstacles for students to understand the text. On the other hand, the subjects of Jiang Ping and Ma Huan's seminars are 'A Sudden Storm'. For one thing, Jiang Ping paid attention to creating situations, language sense training, reading and training, using the overall perception and then reading the sentence one by one to distract the difficulties. Thus, the teaching effect was remarkable. For another, Ma Huan is a teacher who just stepped onto the podium who studied hard and made meticulous preparations for this seminar. She taught students to read the text by asking questions to help them better understand the article.
After the seminar, the English group held a teaching and research meeting and the teachers exchanged the feelings of the lectures and the views on reading experimental textbooks and teaching methods. Everyone put forward their own opinions on the connection between the lower-grade phonics textbook experiment and the third-grade reading experiment teaching. The basic process of reading textbook teaching reached a consensus on the basis of the discussion. Then, everyone agreed that the two-year phonics teaching laid a solid foundation for students' English reading. What's more, the experiment of teaching materials and teaching methods has promoted the growth of teachers too. Afterwards, teacher Zhu Hua from Hongcheng Education Group highly affirmed the effectiveness of the experiment. Meanwhile, Principal Huang Zuning expected everyone to continue to strengthen study, research, exchange and explore the scientific methods of English reading and teaching.
In conclusion, this seminar enabled teachers to further strengthen their confidence in the English reading teaching experiment.
